From 12 to 17 September 2022, the University of Antwerp will host the first offline edition of the FISU World University Championship Mind Sports Chess & Bridge.
The University of Antwerp was founded in 2003 after the merger of three Antwerp universities. It is a young, dynamic and forward-thinking university. The University of Antwerp is characterized by its high standards in education, internationally competitive research and entrepreneurial approach. Over 21.000 students study at the university which is incorporated in the Antwerp University Association, with a total of more than 40.000 students.
Antwerp and its university have a long-standing tradition with mind sports with former Rector Walter Decleir as chairman of the FISU CT Chess from 1996 to 2007 and Geert Magerman as chairman of the FISU CT Bridge from 2003 until today. Antwerp also hosted the FISU World University Championship Chess in 1992 and the University of Antwerp co-hosted the EUSA European University Bridge Championship in 2007.
